Vários meses após as primeiras manchas de óleo começaram a atingir as praias do Brasil, de certo têm-se apenas incertezas. Acumulam-se questões sem resposta, não se sabe, e provavelmente nunca se saiba, a quem pertenceu ou a real origem do poluente, sequer tem-se noção da quantidade derramada ou mesmo da extensão dos impactos do crime ambiental.

“Noves Fora” reflete sobre a tragédia causada em essência não pelo óleo em si, mas, sobretudo pelo descaso e omissão, no antes, no durante e no depois. Chora-se pelo o óleo derramado, não pelas causas e consequências do rastro deixado.

Como memória das desigualdades, das agressões, do abandono, da omissão e do descaso, o trabalho traça um mapa conceitual a partir de reflexões visuais em que cada um dos nove estados nordestinos é representado por uma fotografia das manchas de óleo nas praias, conectadas por cores e formas.

Surgidas ao acaso, ou nem tanto, as cores sobrepostas em cada uma das imagens, foram construídas a partir dos dados temporais e de localização dos aparecimentos das manchas nas praias brasileiras. Na paleta RGB de tons “petróleo”, o valor do “R” surgiu do somatório das dezenas contidas na data do primeiro registro de óleo em cada um dos estados, assim como, os valores de “G” e de “B” surgiram do somatório dos números contidos nas coordenadas geográficas de latitude e longitude, respectivamente, dos locais atingidos.

Several months after the first oil stains reached beaches in Brazil, the only thing we know for sure is that we don't know anything. There are many unanswered questions: nobody knows, and probably never will, to whom the pollutant belonged or its actual origin; not even the amount of oil and the extent of the impacts caused by the environmental crime are known.

“Casting Out Nines” reflects on the tragedy caused not only by the oil spill but mainly by the neglect and omission before, during and after the spill. The cry is over spilled oil, not over the causes and consequences of it. 

As a memory of inequalities, agressions, abandonment, omission and neglect, this work draws a concept map based on visual thoughts in which each of the nine northeastern states is represented by a photograph of the oil stains on the beaches, connected by colors and shapes.

Emerging by chance, or maybe not, the colors layered on each of the images were produced from data regarding the time and location of the stains on Brazilian beaches. In the RGB color model of “petrol” tones, the R value came from the sum of the tens expressed in the date of the first time oil stains were spotted in each state. As for G and B values, they resulted from the sum of the numbers expressed in the latitude and longitude coordinates of the affected locations, respectively.
